FILING PERIOD IS UNDERWAY

On March 1, I had the pleasure of participating in the opening of the filing period at the State Capitol.  Secretary of State Charlie Daniels’ office got the proceedings started in style and then, at high noon, the candidates began filing the necessary documents with the Democratic Party of Arkansas and state officials.
 
 A total of 162 candidates filed on the first afternoon.  Of those, 103 filed as Democrats. As you might expect, our candidates reflected the great demographic diversity of our State. However, during the first few hours, I was very impressed by the diverse backgrounds of our many fine candidates.  A quick review of the filing documents revealed that on Monday, Democrats seeking office included eight educators, seven farmers, six business owners, four physicians, three police officers, two contractors, two pharmacists and two pastors.  While this list is not comprehensive, it demonstrates that our candidates come from all walks of life and possess the experience which will continue to advance the efforts of the DPA and our goals of maintaining good government for the benefit of all Arkansans.  (To view the complete list of candidates who have filed thus far please click here.)
 
The DPA is proud of all the candidates who have filed so far. We know that we will have more, well-qualified individuals file as great candidates for office, reflecting their intent to serve as leaders.   Likewise, local candidates are filing with our county committees and we wish them all the best in the primary.
 
I want to thank the DPA staff and our local officers and county committee members for their dedicated service during this busy time.  I also want to remind current and potential county committee members to file during this time with their county committees.
 
Based on what I saw at the Capitol on Monday, I know that we will have an outstanding slate of nominees for federal, state and local office after the primary is over.  Until then, keep up the good work and contact us at the DPA if we can be of any service.
