Equal Pay Debated in Arkansas On National Equal Pay Day

The U.S. Department of Labor reports women only make 78 cents for every dollar that a man makes. Arkansas Democrats know that women deserve equal pay.

That’s why on Tuesday, which is also national Equal Pay Day, state Rep. Tippi McCullough (Little Rock) presented legislation for pay equity for women and men working in state government.

“We can be a leader in the South on this issue,” said state Rep. Tippi McCullough, “Despite professed support for equal pay, persistent pay disparities make clear that equal pay for equal work is far from a reality. Arkansans work hard and deserve a fair pay equity law.”

Rep. McCullough presented her bill in the House Public Health, Welfare, and Labor Committee on Tuesday. It fell short of the needed votes for advancement.
