Filing Period Overview & Documents – Arkansas

Hi Party Leaders,

The filing period for the 2020 election is just a few weeks away. We are seeing a lot of excitement building and are looking forward to working with you to advance our party forward.

As a quick reminder, the filing period will last from Monday, November 4, 2019 at 12:00pm until Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 12:00pm.

There are a total of five (5) forms attached to this email that will be needed for candidate filing, county party member filing, and county representative to the Special State Convention filing.

County and municipal candidates will be required to complete the following two (2) forms that your county party will collect. At the end of filing a copy of the completed forms should be submitted to the Democratic Party of Arkansas for our records:

1.) Political Practices Pledge – https://www.arkdems.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Political-Practices-Pledge_CountyMunicipalTownships.pdf

2.) Candidate Filing Form – https://www.arkdems.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Filing-Form_CountyMunicipalTownships.pdf

Once the forms above have been completed and the candidate has paid their filing fee, the county party will provide the candidate with a receipt that the candidate will submit to the County Clerk:

3.) Candidate Receipt (keep a copy for the County Party records and send a copy to the Democratic Party of Arkansas for our records) – https://www.arkdems.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/ArkansasFilingForm_Receipt_CountyMunicipalTownships.pdf

Individuals who would like to serve as a member of your county party for the 2020-2021 term will need to complete the membership filing form and return the document to the County Chair:

The most important aspect of this first phase is to note the following: this is *not* the filing period to run as a delegate to the National Convention. You do not have to file to be a County Representative in order to run to be a delegate.

But County Representatives do play an important role in the 2020 Delegate Selection process. The individuals selected to be County Representatives will attend a Special State Convention on May 30, 2020 in Little Rock.
There, these County Representatives will elect the delegates that Arkansas will send to the National Convention.

To file to become a County Representative, you will file with your County Party during the Filing Period (November 4, 2019 – November 12, 2019). Most County Parties will have you file at your county courthouse, though you should check with them beforehand.
You will sign and complete Form A, and then turn that form into your County Party during the filing period.

(Please note that candidates for County Representative must also complete a Political Practices Pledge.)
